Every Wednesday at 11AM

Storytime is designed for children ages 2-4 and their parents or caregivers. Children have fun listening to a story and participating in a themed activity or craft, while also learning how to follow instructions and interact with other kids. Parents gain support from READ and other Storytime parents.

From trains to service dogs, each week has a unique and engaging theme and, sometimes, a special guest or two.

Parents of kids who regularly attended Storytime before starting preschool tell us that they notice their children's soft-skill development and preparedness when entering their first classroom!

Parent Workshops are free, we provide dinner, and we invite you to bring your kids who will be supervised by staff and provided with kid-friendly literacy activities, allowing you to be fully present and engaged in the workshop.

About the FLC's Namesake:
Carolyn R. Otto

Carolyn R. Otto, to whom the Literacy Center is dedicated, served as the Vice President/Bank Manager of Second National Bank and retired in 1991. A member of the Altrusa Club Saginaw, Carolyn supported and volunteered with countless organizations, including Saginaw PRIDE and the Saginaw Children's Zoo. She was also heavily involved in volunteering and supporting the READ Association.

Carolyn passed away on March 11, 2021. As a direct result of her generosity, READ received funds through her trust to begin construction of the Literacy Center.

Thanks to these funds, countless volunteers, and the organization of READ's staff, the Carolyn R. Otto Family Literacy Center was completed and a Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting took place on November 10th, 2022.
